How to use these USA word searches
Use these in a social studies class as a warm-up before a unit on states or government, or give the easy ones to kids on a road trip across the country. Families can print a stack for the Fourth of July weekend, and adults can use the hard state capital puzzles. Each PDF has the puzzle on page 1 and the answer key on page 2.

Good to know about USA word search
Every USA puzzle on this page is free to play online and free to print as a PDF with its answer key, one by one. Only the optional booklet, all 25 puzzles bundled into one print-ready file, costs money.
Not in one puzzle. Two medium puzzles list 24 capitals between them, and the hard Harder State Capitals puzzle adds 18 more. Together the three puzzles cover 42 of the 50 state capitals, so a few are left for you to look up.
Try Symbols of America, American Food, Coins and Money or Great Lakes. Each has eight short words that run only across and down on a 10 by 10 grid. Older kids can move on to the medium presidents and landmarks puzzles.
Presidents and other people in the puzzles are historical figures who have died, and the space puzzle names only astronauts from the past. Place names, rivers, parks and cities make up most of the word lists.
Easy puzzles (10 by 10, words across and down) work from about age 6. Medium puzzles (13 by 13, diagonals added) suit ages 8 to 11. Hard puzzles (16 by 16, every direction, backwards too) are for older kids and adults.
Page 2 of every PDF is the answer key, with each word marked where it hides. When you play online, the Show answers button marks them on the grid.
Every puzzle comes as a US Letter PDF (8.5 by 11 inches) and an A4 PDF (210 by 297 mm). Print at 100% or Actual size.
