How to use these September word searches
Use the back-to-school puzzles as a first-week warm-up or a calm activity for early finishers. Teachers can match the history and subjects puzzles to a lesson, and grandparents can print the harvest and holiday grids for Grandparents Day. Labor Day is the first Monday, and Grandparents Day follows on the next Sunday. Constitution Day is September 17, and Rosh Hashanah often begins in September. The September Holidays puzzle also covers Oktoberfest and Johnny Appleseed.
Try Back to School for ages 6 and up, then School Supplies for ages 8 to 12. Older students can finish with School Subjects, which uses longer words such as geography and chemistry.
In the Northern Hemisphere the September equinox usually lands on September 22 or 23. The September Sky puzzle includes equinox, harvest moon and daylight, and Leaf Color Science explains why trees change color.
Easy puzzles (10 by 10, words across and down) work from about age 6. Medium puzzles (13 by 13, diagonals added) suit ages 8 to 11. Hard puzzles (16 by 16, every direction, backwards too) are for older kids and adults.
