How to use these Science word searches
Use an easy puzzle as a five minute warm-up before a science lesson, or hand a hard one to early finishers. Teachers can match a puzzle to the unit on cells, chemistry or the solar system and let students check the answer key afterward. Homeschool families and science clubs use them too. Start with the easy puzzles such as Lab Tools, Weather or Five Senses. They are 10 by 10 grids with eight short words that only run across and down, so early readers can find each one without searching diagonally.
The medium and hard levels include separate puzzles on cell biology, genetics, chemistry basics, the periodic table, energy, physics terms and astronomy, plus a puzzle of famous scientists.
Pick the puzzle that matches the unit, such as Ecosystems or Simple Machines, and ask students to write a one sentence definition for each word they find. The answer key on page 2 lets them check their work.
Easy puzzles (10 by 10, words across and down) work from about age 6. Medium puzzles (13 by 13, diagonals added) suit ages 8 to 11. Hard puzzles (16 by 16, every direction, backwards too) are for older kids and adults.
Page 2 of every PDF is the answer key, with each word marked where it hides. When you play online, the Show answers button marks them on the grid.
