It is named for the Roman emperor Augustus. The hard Roman Roots puzzle hides his name, his earlier name Octavian, and words such as Senate, Forum and Actium. It is one of six hard puzzles.
Back to School is an easy 10 by 10 puzzle with eight classroom words. Back to School Words is a hard 16 by 16 puzzle with terms like syllabus, semester and curriculum, for middle schoolers and adults.
The Dog Days are the hottest stretch of summer, linked since Roman times to the rising of Sirius, the Dog Star. The hard Dog Days puzzle hides Sirius, Canis Major, Canicula and eighteen words in all.
Easy puzzles (10 by 10, words across and down) work from about age 6. Medium puzzles (13 by 13, diagonals added) suit ages 8 to 11. Hard puzzles (16 by 16, every direction, backwards too) are for older kids and adults.
Page 2 of every PDF is the answer key, with each word marked where it hides. When you play online, the Show answers button marks them on the grid.
