How to use these Apple word searches
Take a stack to an orchard trip or fall festival, or use them in a classroom apple unit in September and October. Apple Parts, Apple Tree and Apple Treats use short words like CORE, STEM, PIE and BEES. They are 10 by 10 grids with words only across and down, which suits ages 6 to 8.
Apple Varieties has Gala, Fuji, McIntosh, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Braeburn, Jonathan and Cortland. The hard puzzle Heirloom Apples adds Arkansas Black, Newtown Pippin, Roxbury Russet, Northern Spy, Baldwin and cider apples like Kingston Black.
The hard puzzle Where Apples Began covers the wild apple forests of Kazakhstan, Almaty, the Silk Road, Malus sieversii and how colonists brought apples to New England.
Easy puzzles (10 by 10, words across and down) work from about age 6. Medium puzzles (13 by 13, diagonals added) suit ages 8 to 11. Hard puzzles (16 by 16, every direction, backwards too) are for older kids and adults.
