Extremely hard word search

These are the biggest puzzles on the site: 22 by 22 letters with 36 words each, hidden in every direction, backwards too. Plan on 30 minutes or more for one grid.

Word search super hard

Super hard here means more letters, more words and long specialist words, such as world capitals, the periodic table and famous scientists. Show answers marks every word when you are stuck, and the PDF has the answer key.

Good to know about Extreme word search

  • Every Extreme puzzle on this page is free to play online and free to print as a PDF with its answer key, one by one. Only the optional booklet, all 12 puzzles bundled into one print-ready file, costs money.

  • Plan on 30 to 60 minutes for a 22 by 22 grid with 36 words. Experienced solvers may be faster. Scanning for the longest words first and crossing off the list as you go saves a lot of time.

  • The grid is large, there are 36 words, and every word can run in any of eight directions, backwards too. The words are long and specific, such as names, places and technical terms, so guessing is harder.

  • Most children will find them too long and too tricky. The vocabulary is aimed at adults. Younger solvers will do better with the easy or medium puzzles, or with the mini puzzles for quick practice.

  • Easy puzzles (10 by 10, words across and down) work from about age 6. Medium puzzles (13 by 13, diagonals added) suit ages 8 to 11. Hard puzzles (16 by 16, every direction, backwards too) are for older kids and adults.

  • Page 2 of every PDF is the answer key, with each word marked where it hides. When you play online, the Show answers button marks them on the grid.

  • Every puzzle comes as a US Letter PDF (8.5 by 11 inches) and an A4 PDF (210 by 297 mm). Print at 100% or Actual size.

  • Every puzzle on this page plays in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer: drag or tap from the first to the last letter of a word. Nothing to install and no account.

  • Print as many copies as you need for your home, classroom, church group or care home. Please link to this page instead of uploading the files elsewhere.
