Start with the easy puzzles such as Christmas Tree, Reindeer or Toy Box. Each has eight short words in a 10 by 10 grid, and the words only run across and down, so early readers can find them without searching backwards.
Mostly. Manger, inn, shepherds and angels come from Luke, and star, wise men, gold, frankincense and myrrh from Matthew. Stable and donkey come from the traditional Nativity scene rather than the Gospel text.
The hard puzzle A Christmas Carol hides eighteen words from the Dickens story, including Scrooge, Marley, Cratchit and Fezziwig, in all eight directions.
Easy puzzles (10 by 10, words across and down) work from about age 6. Medium puzzles (13 by 13, diagonals added) suit ages 8 to 11. Hard puzzles (16 by 16, every direction, backwards too) are for older kids and adults.
Page 2 of every PDF is the answer key, with each word marked where it hides. When you play online, the Show answers button marks them on the grid.
