Bible Word Search Print: A Five-Step Guide

A closed, worn leather Bible with a red ribbon bookmark on a pale wooden table, next to a wooden pencil and a stack of white printed pages in soft window light

A printed puzzle is only as good as the page it lands on. A Bible word search print stays readable when you print the PDF at actual size, on the paper size that matches the file.

Most Bible word search files are made for plain paper and a home printer. A few settings decide whether the Scripture on the page is easy to read or squeezed into a corner. The steps below work for any Bible word search puzzles PDF, and they say where our own puzzles fit.

Step 1: Pick the level for your Bible word search print

Choose the level first, because it decides how much you print. A puzzle that is too hard gets abandoned, and a stack of abandoned pages is wasted paper. Start one level easier than you expect.

The levels differ in grid size and direction. Easy is an 8 by 8 grid with six words, running across and down. Medium is 11 by 11 with nine words and adds diagonals running down. Expert is 13 by 13 with twelve words, in all eight directions. Our rule for moving up is simple: when most puzzles are finished in one sitting without help, try the next level. If a page feels crowded or the solver loses their place, stay or step back one. Print one free puzzle from each level to judge this before you print a stack.

Easy8×86Across and down
Medium11×119Adds diagonals running down
Expert13×1312All eight directions

Our Bible Word Search levels, Easy, Medium and Expert each hold 40 free puzzles, and the Easy and Medium grids print large on a full page. Every puzzle prints a Bible passage, and every word to find sits in that passage. The wording is King James Version. A research guide from Yale University Library notes that its older words, such as "ye", "thou" and "verily", still read well aloud, which is worth knowing if your group reads from a modern translation.

A page that prints clearly is a page that gets finished.

Step 2: Match the paper size to the file

Use the paper size the file was made for. A US Letter file belongs on US Letter paper. An A4 file belongs on A4. Most printers in the United States hold Letter, and most printers elsewhere hold A4.

Every Bible word search on our site has two print buttons, one for US Letter and one for A4, so you pick the file that fits your tray. If your tray and your file do not match, you do not need to convert anything. Download the other size.

Step 3: Print at actual size

Open the print window and look for the page sizing setting. In Acrobat, Adobe's page sizing options are Fit, Actual size, Shrink oversized pages and Custom Scale. Adobe says "Fit" reduces or enlarges each page to fit the printable area, while "Actual size" prints without scaling.

For a puzzle, pick Actual size. The grid and the passage then print the way the maker laid them out. If your printer cuts off an edge at Actual size, the paper and the file do not match. Switch to the other file from Step 2.

Step 4: Print a Bible word search for one person or a group

Each puzzle has its own page, with the passage above the grid and the word list below. Print it that way, one puzzle per page, rather than shrinking two onto a sheet. Two to a sheet means a crowded passage. Print one puzzle per person, not a whole level per person. A level holds 40 puzzles, so it covers 40 sessions for a single solver. A class of 15 that does one puzzle together needs 15 sheets and one answer sheet for the leader.

Every free puzzle PDF has the answer key on page 2. You can print page 1 for the group and keep the answer page in your hand.

All 120 puzzles are free, one PDF at a time. If you lead a weekly class and would rather print a whole level in one go, there is an optional print-ready PDF of each level with its 40 puzzles, a contents page and an answer page for every puzzle, in US Letter and A4, for $4.99, or all three levels for $9.99. You do not need it: the same puzzles stay free on the page.

Step 5: Test one sheet before the stack

Print one page and hold it the way your solver will. Read the Bible passage out loud. If you stumble on a letter, change something before you print 15 copies. Matte paper is usually easier to read than glossy paper, because less light bounces back into the eyes.

The National Institute on Aging tells clinicians who work with older adults to minimize glare. Seat the solver under steady light before you hand over the page.

Printing for someone with weak eyesight

Start at Easy. It has the smallest grid and the fewest words. Print at Actual size, because Fit can rescale the page. Use plain matte white paper and print in black, with a pencil that leaves a dark mark. Test one sheet and hold it at the distance the solver really reads from, in the chair they will sit in. If the letters still strain, the answer is a better light and a glare-free spot, not a smaller grid. Let the solver read the passage at the top first. If they can read that comfortably, the grid will be fine.

When a printed Bible puzzle is the wrong choice

A printed puzzle is the wrong choice if your group reads another translation than the King James Version. The passage on each of our pages is KJV, so a group that follows a modern Bible may stumble over the old wording. It is also wrong if you have no printer or no paper. A bound book needs neither.

If none of that applies, you can print and solve today. The Bible Word Search page has all 120 puzzles in three levels, free to play online or print.

FAQ

Is there a free Bible word search activity for adults?

Yes. Every puzzle on our Bible Word Search page is free to play online or print, with a King James passage above the grid and the answer key on page 2. The Medium and Expert levels suit adults and Bible study groups.

What are some good Bible word search puzzles for adults?

Look for puzzles that tie each grid to a real passage, so the words you find come from the text you read. In our Bible Word Search, every puzzle prints a Bible passage in the King James Version, and every word to find sits in that passage.

Conclusion

Printing a Bible word search takes five small decisions: the level, the paper size, actual size, the number of copies and a test sheet. Make them in that order and the passage stays readable from the first puzzle to the last. Keep the answer pages for the leader, and print the whole stack only after the test sheet looks right.
